A frightfully English, seriously funny farce

'There's nothing remotely Christmassy about Philip King's wartime farce SEE HOW THEY RUN but, as festive fare goes, IT'S A CRACKER...Farce in the round can be farcical for all the wrong reasons.  Not so here thanks to the aplomb with which Sarah Frankcom has marshalled her Toops and her troops...the ensemble work is seriously good... Bostrom is MAGNIFICENT.  Hugh Sachs makes a delightfully unassuming Arthur Humphrey...his humouring of his hostess by accepting and savouring a make-believe glass of imaginary brandy is a moment of COMIC GENIUS...Nick Caldecott's brightly buoyant Toop has the mannerisms that make him the model of a country vicar..Alexander Mathie hits the mark as Miss Skillen, whether sober or sozzled or knocked out stone cold...hurls herself ferciously into ever more balletic positions..As comic relief for all the family, and for vicars both frocked and unfrocked, SEE HOW THEY RUN could scarcely be trumped'

'Director Sarah Frankcom, designer Paul Wills and fight coordinator..Kate Waters have done BRILLIANTLY with this World War II-era village farce...Think FAWLTY TOWERS as penned by NOEL COWARD  and you're basically there.  The cast all mug along gamely delivering rapid-fire deadpan asides with impressive comic timing across the board...Kate O'Flynn is insanely likeable - get in the spirit and you'lll be chuckling like Santa on nitrous oxide'

'This one will run and run...just so long as the cast can maintain its frantic momentum..like and episode of 'ALLO 'ALLO at twice normal speed...It's all played at a fast and furious pace - Kate O'Flynn justifies all her recent newcomer awards and is almost unrecognisable as the lynchpin to chaos, Ida the maid.  Nick Caldecott is a delightfully effervescent Rev Toop and Laura Rogers...shines as his wife.   - but then none of the cast can afford to put a foot wrong in this PHYSICALLY KNOCKABOUT FUN'

'This year, the Exchange hsa followed a different path and produced  A RIOT OF SLAPSTICK AND PHYSICAL COMEDY... It is fantastic knockabout stuff that keeps the audience laughing, gasping, groaning and cheering.  Each character is larger than life, as befits the nature of play and recent TMA and MEN award winner Kate O'Flynn who plays Ida, the maid, is particularly good, with her strong accent and wild body-language producing some of the best laughs.  Alexandra Mathie also deserves praise for the wonderful physicality she brings to the role of Miss Skillon...I would advise anyone to give this a try.  It it is...a clever, witty and above all, fun, play which will keep you enthralled and laughing even after you leave the theatre.'
